Rising Above Financial Storms (Dr Tan Chong Koay)
Dr Tan's book is about his investment philosophy and he shares examples from the 1980's to 2013. He is a fund manager in Asia.
The book covers Dr Tan's beliefs and investment philosophy. It then leads to his early biography and also career history, which is pretty illustrious. A large chunk of the book is taken up by his examples. The examples give enough detail to show his thinking behind why he takes up a company or why he is letting it go. The explanations have a mix of macro and micro-based rationales. There are numbers and graphs, but they are surprisingly not often referred to and can be skipped. The last section covers advice and also talks about his scandal with local authorities.
I strongly recommend this book for a Singapore/ Malaysia-based perspective on how a fund invests, especially for the time-span covered. Almost no other book exists in this niche for comparison but this book is good enough on its own merit.
